communication No 3

Communication No 3. Pigment and collage on paper ( 67x47 cm.)

This will be the last one of the series Communication . This one is about ' talking down to people'

The next ones I plan to work on, will be more about language than the communication itself.
I started to do a little bit of research about old symbols , where our alphabet is coming from.  Like the Sumerian Alphabet (here already in the background)

Communication No 2

I have finished the painting 'Communication No 2'
there is ALWAYS this stage while I am painting, that I think " Now  I destroyed it , painting lost " but I mostly overcome that stage... Or : I paint UNTIL I overcome it .....

Communication No 2. Collage, mixed media and gold on canvas ( 35x70cm.)

Communication

Communication No 1. Collage ,material and acrylic on wood. 60x90 cm.

Preparing for an exhibition in a language centre....
Language has always be 'my theme' .  Having words in different languages in  a painting, without these words being an explanation of the work ( If the painting needs an explanation  the painting has failed !)
Here the letters are not even words anymore, but  just symbols of our  base of  communication.

'The Crow'

' The Crow'.  87x102 cm. Mixed media on linen

In the last year, my theme was 'befluegelte Wesen' that you could translate with 'winged creatures' . I must say, that in German , it does not sound so much like words from a horror show !
One of my first pieces was  "The Crow, inspired by a landing of these huge birds on the power cords while I was walking the street. It was a very strong image, a bit uncomfortable too .... Some people find also the painting 'uneasy' .

Few drawings on one page... Actually this is the back of the menu in the restaurant !
There are all from different sketchbooks, but I like to have them all  together.

waiting

This sketch is still from the exhibition 'the travel'. In that show, I had a lot of boats, travellers, suitcases and also the travellers who were waiting. The waiting for the bus, the train, the boat , the plane or the next day. THE WAITING that something will change. The only time, when I actually don't feel it, is when I am painting or drawing or working on an idea. Than, there is no time.

Wind

Wind . Drawing  and collage on paper ( 29 x 21 cm )

Worked on paper today . On old book + collage and stamps. The idea was first a woman on a bycicle , but it  changed while I was working ! I wonder why I never paint the idea that I actually have in my head ?

The final painting / drawing is always different of what I intended to do . That is though maybe the reason  why it is never the LAST painting or drawing ?!

birds nest No 2

A sketch today, but I think this is what I am going to draw the next couple of days, just bigger and also with encaustic, as it seems to be the appropriate medium for all these lines...

bird's nest

Just a few photos of the nest, that Leonardo found today and tomorrow the drawings ....
Leonardo found the nest in our garden on the ground  ( without the egg, I did put it in later on , it's actually just half a shell) , so I did not "steal"  it from a bird, which  still used it ! I find nests fascinating... all these lines (  In German:  Linienwirrwarr ) . I could imagine it as a really big drawing !

painting

I just need time to get back into my rhythm...
I am more playing and trying new  things  with encaustic.
When you apply acrylic on top of the wax and wait for the 'colour pearls' to dry and wipe them of, it gives it a nice old feeling.
I finished with 'enough' today . Tomorrow something more happy on the table....

Enough No 2 . 60x40cm. Encaustic and mixed media on wood.

detail

And of course I worked for 'the book' .... But this will be another blog....

Back to the studio...

Today , after 3 weeks of school holidays, finally back to the studio !
It is always such a great feeling to enter back into the studio.... and on the same time, always as overwhelming ! Where to start ... what to paint or draw ! Not waiting for 'the inspiration' but just starting to work and the inspiration and the ideas might come ( or not...)
So today, just a light start....
Enough.21x29cm. mixed media on paper.
Without really knowing where it is going....

Enough 2 . 21x29cm. Mixed media on paper.

Sea....

2 days on the sea... as always, very inspiring !
The sea does to me the same as an open fire does... you can just sit in front of it and get lost in it.
I have done hundreds of photos and still haven't really captured the essence of the sea... the strength of the water for example I could not catch on the photo ( you would need the noise with it maybe...)
I think one of my next paintings will be again 'the sea', but this time a dynamic one ...and really really big.
I did a small painting on a telephone book , just to play with the colours and the old texture.
But first the photo:

the painting :
